Advertising on Grand Buildings, Trafalgar Square

Description:
This photograph, taken in the early years of the century, shows luminous advertising at night in Trafalgar Square. The use of such advertising grew in the 1920s and 1930s due to the spread of Neon signs. Amongst the products advertised is tobacco, a very widely-used product at this time. There are also two adverts for "Bile Beans", laxatives sold for their alleged health benefits.
