promotional mug
- Description:
- This is the prototype for a promotional mug of Bromley Museum of which 720 were produced for sale. The building illustrated is the Priory which was never actually a Priory, but a manor house and rectory. The site dates back to the 13th century when it was the centre of a large estate that was farmed to generate an income for the Church. In the 19th century the house passed into private ownership and acquired the 'Priory' name in reference to its medieval past. It was finally purchased by Orpington Urban District Council in the 1940s and became a museum in 1965.
