Tonsillectomy Guillotine - medical instrument

Description:
This tonsillectomy tool came from a doctor's surgery in London Road, Thornton Heath, Croydon. In the 1920s and early 30s, it was common to have your tonsils taken out by your doctor. Having your tonsils removed was thought to help prevent your getting infections. Audrey Neeve suffered regularly from tonsillitis. She had her tonsils removed by her GP, Dr Pajgar, in Thornton Heath in 1933 when she was seven.
