Arrival at the Esplanade Hotel, London - Photograph

While the Freuds' new house was being renovated in August and September 1938, the family moved to the Esplanade Hotel, Warrington Crescent. An American friend was concerned that they would have to put up with the awful English food. Freud reassured him - the hotel had a French chef.
