- This photograph shows Joan Manson, Mrs Snowman, the actress Miriam Karlin and Miriam Stanton standing at Miriam Stanton's kitchenware stall, at a bazaar run by the North West London Women's Zionist Society at St John's Wood Synagogue. Miriam Stanton (n��e Sandzer) was born in Warsaw, and moved around Europe with her family. At the outbreak of World War II, they were in Paris. They left as refugees in 1940, and spent time in Nice and Lisbon before sailing for Jamaica, where the family lived in an internment camp. She married Londoner Ben Stanton, a friend of the family from Poland, in 1945.
