Harry Errington with the George Cross medal he was awarded for gallantry in 1941.During the blitz he served as a fireman in Soho. He was awarded the George Cross for his bravery in saving several of his seriously injured and burnt colleagues when the fire station received a direct hit - the only living fireman to receive the award. Harry's parents came from Lublin in Poland and settled in the West End. Harry changed his name from Ehrengott in order to get a job as a tailor's cutter in savile Row.
