An R.T.-type bus with Capital Radio advertising livery - photograph

The B.B.C. dominated radio broadcasting in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, 'pirate' radio stations helped to break the monopoly. However it was not until 1973 that London's own independent radio station was launched. Capital Radio was the first London-wide independent station. This converted R.T-type bus has been repainted to advertise a Capital Radio road-show.
