Interior of the staff bus on the Festival of Britain promotional tour. - photograph

Four buses went on the 1950 European tour to promote the Festival of Britain, which was held in London in 1951. Three of the buses carried promotional material, including models and posters for exhibits. The fourth bus was fitted out for the staff. Seven staff went on the three-month tour: all men. They stayed in hotels, but could relax in the staff bus during breaks on the road. This photo from 1950 shows the interior of the staff bus. It was also a showcase for British quality and design and is very stylish. The chair in the foreground is typical of 1950s design. The layout in general shows off the uncluttered style that was fashionable after the war.
