Severely damaged trolleybuses at Bexleyheath trolleybus depot - photograph

Air raid damage at Bexleyheath trolleybus depot was severe. The trolleybus on the left is an H.1.-class. Debris litters the depot entrance and forecourt. During this period, the Luftwaffe was bombing London nightly. There was little let-up between raids to allow the urgent repair works to be carried out. Londoners were told 'London can take it', but many must have questioned how long they could survive the continual bombardment.
