R.T.-type on Brixton Road - photograph

The R.T. bus type was introduced after the end of the Second World War. The withdrawal of R.T.s began in 1962 when they were replaced by R.M. buses. However, as this picture from 1969 shows, it took a long time for the R.T.-type to disappear from London's streets. The last London Transport R.T. was withdrawn in 1979. The bus in the photo is travelling along Brixton Road in a bus lane. Bus lanes were introduced as an experiment on some routes in 1968. They were intended to improve traffic flow.
