"Mayfair" cigarette case with engraved decoration showing maps of London - cigarette case
- Description:
- Many London-based companies have used the London Underground map as a means of promoting their product. This Mayfair cigarette case, when opened, reveals a Beck version of the map. On the outside is a map showing the area surrounding London and London postal districts. The sprung holders inside are designed to take five cigarettes each. This version of the Underground map shows parts of the 1935-39 New Works Programme. This includes extensions on the Central, Northern and Bakerloo lines as well as the stations of Marlborough Road, St Johns Wood and Acacia Road on the Metropolitan line, which no longer exist. The Mayfair details about the case are taken from a display showcard salvaged from the tobacconist's shop at Queensbury station on the Jubilee line.
