The Golden Age of Electricity exhibition at Charing Cross Underground station - photograph
- Description:
- This British Electrical Development Association exhibition, 'The Golden Age of Electricity' was held at Charing Cross (now Embankment) Underground station in 1932. The exhibition was shown in the booking hall exhibition area. There is a general view of display cabinets showing how electricity could transform every area of home living. In the middle of these display cabinets is an enclosed dining area for an electric cooking demonstration. Through exhibitions like these, people became more familiar with electricity, understood its uses and how the appliances worked. The increased use of electric appliances was also connected to female emancipation from domestic chores.
