Wapping Old Stairs - photograph
- Description:
- Goods were brought ashore at river stairs such as this one at Wapping. It was still one of the busiest areas in London when this photo was taken, between 1900 and 1920. These stairs are next to the Town of Ramsgate pub, so called because fishermen from Ramsgate landed their catches here. The sign can be seen in the picture. There has been a pub on this site since the 15th century.
