Driver McCorkle at Ash Grove bus garage - photograph

In the 1950s, London Transport (L.T.) began a recruitment campaign in the West Indies and later in other commonwealth countries. This made L.T. in the 1950s and 60s one of the most ethnically diverse companies in London. This trend continued into the 1970s and 80s, with L.T. gaining a reputation as an equal opportunities employer. In 1989, a London Transport Museum photo exhibition called 'Bus Crew' focused on the diversity of individuals working on London's buses. This photograph, taken for the exhibition, shows Driver McCorkle at Ash Grove garage in Hackney.
