penny toy horse-drawn trotter
- Description:
- This penny toy of a horse-drawn trotter was bought by Ernest King on 17 December 1906. In London, street vendors were a good source for penny toys, and Ernest King bought his collection of over 1,700 items from them. Interested in the plight of the 'gutter merchants', he compiled a scrapbook of newscuttings reporting attempts by the authorities to remove them from the congested thoroughfare around Ludgate Hill.
