Safe as houses, buy housing bonds - poster

Following the Housing Act of 1919, the London County Council (L.C.C.) introduced housing bonds. The public were encouraged to buy the bonds to raise money for the building of new public housing. To promote the scheme, the L.C.C. launched a publicity campaign. It wanted to show the benefits of its housing plans and those of other metropolitan boroughs. Londoners raised just under four million pounds through buying the bonds. This poster was designed by 'Poy' (Percy H Fearon), chief cartoonist for London's Evening News, and produced by Benson's advertising agency.
