Passers-by rest on the steps of the University of London's main building - photograph

The steps of the main building of the University of London are part of the Grade I listed Wilkins Building. The building was named after its designer William Wilkins, who also designed the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Between September 1940 and April 1941 the main building sustained severe bomb damage. The lengthy restoration process was not completed until 1985.
