Motor racing at Crystal Palace - Photograph
- Description:
- Crystal Palace had been a popular a racing venue before the Second World War and the circuit was revived in 1953. With the cars in position on the grid, thousands of paying spectators prepared to enjoy the racing. Mike Hawthorn and Reg Parnell were amongst the competitors on this August bank holiday. Local residents' objections led to races being limited to only five per year until 1970, and eventually the circuit was closed in 1972.
