A demonstration against the Colour Bar Immigration Bill, Trafalgar Square - photograph

In 1962, workers and students in Britain from across the commonwealth marched through the West End to condemn the government's Colour Bar Immigration Bill. The march was organised by the Movement for Colonial Freedom. Addressing the crowds at the Trafalgar Square rally were Dr Orbach; John Stonehouse M.P; Laurence Parvitt M.P; Mr Pitt; Mr Qureshi, secretary of the Pakistani Welfare Association; Ratta Singh, president of the Indian Workers Association; and Claudia Jones, editor of the West Indian Gazette.
