A missionary at Caledonian Cattle Market - photograph

Description:
Caledonian Cattle Market covered 30 acres between Islington and Camden Town, and was a hugely busy and popular place. Evangelist missionaries working for the London City Mission took the word of God to industrial centres and large gatherings such as market places. Armed with a bible, the missionary would try to reach people who may not otherwise enter a church, either through open-air preaching, or direct communication with individuals. The missionary John Galt produced this photo to show the work of his London City Mission.
