Competitor's card - Olympic Games, London, 1908

Competitor's cards were given to athletes in the 1908 London Olympics. This card belonged to Richard Jackett. He and his brother Edward were successful rugby players for Cornwall and competed in the British Olympic rugby team. The Rugby Football Union (RFU) invited the Cornish team, who had been the 1908 County Championship winners, to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. The RFU had not considered the event important enough to enter a national team. The county team went on to win a silver medal, being beaten in the Final by the only other team also competing in the event, Australia.
