Mrs S. A. Barnett at Hampstead's Garden Colony
- Description:
- Henrietta Barnett was the guiding force behind Hampstead Garden Suburb, a development in Golders Green. Inspired by the Garden City movement and the newly-built underground railway, Barnett envisioned a self-sustaining community. She and her husband Samuel Barnett were already involved in philanthropic works, including the founding of Toynbee Hall and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. The Garden Suburb was intended to embrace all social classes together in a healthy, attractive, and stable community environment.
