Stained glass window
- Description:
- This is one of three windows from St. Clements Church, Ilford that commemorate Sarah Ingleby, who gave the land that the church was built on in 1889. Sarah Ingleby was the last resident of Valentines Mansion, a large private house built in the 1690s. As Ilford became a suburb, St. Clements was built to serve the expanding population. After Sarah died in 1906, these windows were installed. The church was later demolished in 1977 and the windows donated to the London Borough of Redbridge. The windows depict the biblical story of Dorcas, a charitable woman who made clothes for poor widows. The windows allude to the generosity of Sarah Ingleby in gifting the land for the church.
