- Emily James was born into a Gypsy family in 1921 and lived at Northview Caravan Park, Hainault from 1975 until her death in 2004 after a short illness. Emily was born in Tilbury Marshes, Essex. She lived in a horse drawn caravan with her Mum, Dad and family. The family moved from farm to farm in Kent during summer, harvesting fruit and other crops. Over the winter they stayed in one place. Money was spent on food and their horses. The men also made extra money by selling logs. In 1975, Emily moved into the Hainault caravan site which is still a home for several of her family. Emily had 6 children, 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren!
