Police out of Brixton - leaflet
- Description:
- The South London Workers Against Racism produced this leaflet. Part of the South London Revolutionary Communist pamphlet series, it was published at the time of the civil disturbances in Brixton in 1981, and formed part of the campaign to end racist 'oppression' by the police and racist groups such as the National Front. The text refers to the perceived 'criminalisation' of the people of Brixton by the police and 'Operation Swamp 81' designed to target street crime in the area but which ultimately only served to worsen relations between the police and the public. There is also criticism of the Labour movement's faltering defence against attacks on black people. The publication hints at the racism inherent at all levels of government and calls for state institutions to be destroyed.
